This Privacy Policy explains how Drinking Buddies, operated by co-founders Christian Liszewski and Patrick Chudecki ("Drinking Buddies," "we," "us"), collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you use the Drinking Buddies mobile application (the "App"). It is written to satisfy Apple App Store, CCPA/CPRA (California), and GDPR (EEA/UK) disclosure requirements. If you do not agree with this policy, do not use the App.
"Drinking Buddies Inc." is a stylized brand name and a play on words — it is not a representation that Drinking Buddies is incorporated or registered as a corporation.
| Category | Examples | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Account & identity | Name, email, username, birthday (used to verify legal drinking age), profile photo | You (signup) or Apple (Sign in with Apple) |
| Drink-log content | Beverage category, brand, size, ABV, standard-drink count, cost, venue/location name, timestamp, and any photo you submit for a drink entry | You, directly |
| Photos submitted for AI recognition | Images you capture in-App to identify a drink | You, via device camera |
| Social content | Friend connections, posts, comments, reactions, challenge participation, leaderboard rank | You and your connections |
| Usage & device data | App interactions, crash logs, device type/OS version, push-notification token | Automatically, from your device |
| Purchase data | In-App purchase/subscription status and token balances (payment card details are handled entirely by Apple — we never receive or store them) | Apple, on your purchase |
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your drink-log content to serve third-party advertising.
When you use camera-based drink recognition, the photo you capture is sent to a third-party AI vision service solely to generate a recognition result (beverage type/size/ABV estimate) for that request. Photos you choose to attach to a saved drink entry or story post are stored in our backend (Supabase Storage) and are visible to your friends within the App as described in Section 4. You may delete a photo by deleting the associated drink entry or post.
Your username, profile photo, drink logs you choose to post, story photos, leaderboard rank, and streak are visible to your friends/followers within the App according to the App's normal social features. Do not log anything you don't want visible to your connections.
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Database, authentication, file storage, and backend server functions for the App |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, push notifications (APNs), in-app purchases |
| AI vision API provider | Processes photos you submit for drink recognition; not used to train the provider's general models beyond their standard API data-handling terms |
| RevenueCat (future) | Once real in-app purchases are enabled, will manage subscription/purchase validation |
We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Drinking Buddies, our users, or the public.
If Drinking Buddies is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction; we will notify you of any such change.
We retain your account and drink-log data for as long as your account is active, so that your history, stats, and streaks remain accurate. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
The App is not directed to children under 13, and drink-logging features require users to meet the legal drinking age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have, we will delete it promptly — contact us at drinkingbuddiesinc@gmail.com if you believe a child has provided us information.
We use industry-standard measures (encryption in transit, access controls, row-level security policies on our database) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Our servers and service providers may process data in the United States. By using the App, you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in the United States and other countries where our providers operate.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified through the App or the email on your account. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest revision.
